Junior Research Fellowship 2024
The Junior Research Fellowship is administered by the University Grants Commission (UGC). This fellowship was launched keeping in mind the politically and culturally confrontational relationship. This fellowship project will strengthen India’s relationship with other developing countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Junior Research Fellowship 2024 opens up new vistas for foreign students and faculty, enabling them to come to India and pursue advanced studies and research in the sciences, humanities, and social sciences at Indian universities.
OBJECTIVE
The objective of the Junior Research Fellowship is to provide an opportunity for foreign students and teachers from developing countries to undertake advanced study and research leading to an M.Phil./Ph.D. and postdoctoral research in sciences, humanities, and social Sciences at Indian universities.

Junior Research Fellowship: Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria that students must meet are discussed below:-

Students and teachers from developing countries of Asia/Africa and Latin America
Eligibility:
- The upper age limit for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) is 35 years for men as of 1 July of the year of application and 45 years for women.
- Applicants must have at least a high-class master’s degree with a second-class bachelor’s degree, or a second-class master’s degree with a first-class bachelor’s degree.

Duration Of Fellowship
These are five-year integrated fellowships for M.Phil. and Ph.D. academic criteria of the current programs for the selection of Ph. The duration of the fellowship is as follows:-

Application Process Under Junior Research Fellowship
The qualified candidates have to apply against the advertisements given by the universities/institutions/colleges recognized under
(i) Sec. 2 (f) and 12 (B) of the UGC Act, 1956.
(ii) Grant-in-aid Deemed Universities under Sec-3.
(iii) Universities/Institutions funded by State/Central Government.
(iv) Institute of National Importance.

CANCELLATION OF AWARD
The fellowship is liable to cancellation in the case of:
- Misconduct.
- Unsatisfactory progress of research work.
- Failure in any of the examinations related to M.Phil/Ph.D.
- A candidate is found ineligible later.
If the JRF/RA is discontinued before the period of two years, the entire amount of the fellowship will be refunded to the UGC.
Grant release procedure by UGC
On receipt of the Joining Report (Annexure II) of the candidate together with the required documents, the UGC office releases the first installment of the admissible grant to the concerned university/institution. Thereafter, the grant is released on receipt of the Utilisation Certificate and statement of expenditure for the last paid grant (Annexures -III, IV, and V). On completion of the award, an audited utilization certificate is to be submitted by the university/institution the awardee has worked with. The UGC office may hold an amount of Rs.5,000/- of the last installment and the same will be reimbursed on receipt of all required documents for settling and finalizing accounts.
